After spending years reading diverse children’s books while working as an educator, Julia realized she could reach young learners in a unique way: “I’ll write a book about my adorable pets!” Her furry family has since become a relatable source of connection for children everywhere.

As a Canadian self-published author, both of Julia’s books are available at major retailers worldwide, including Chapters/Indigo, Amazon, Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, and many others.

Julia has embraced the conversations with her students about her pets, which inspired her to see how these discussions sparked their interest and curiosity. “This is why literature is so important for young learners,” she believes, especially when it provides an opportunity to understand the world around them. Julia is passionate about reaching more children and helping them learn through the adventures of her lovable pets: Chukums, Charlie, and Cali.

Children's Author Julia E. Giancaspro

Julia Erika Giancaspro, is a Toronto based author. She became a registered member with the College of Early Childhood Educators after graduating with honors from the Early Childhood Educator program at Seneca College. She went on to spend several rewarding years working as an educator teaching many young learners of all ages. During her career as an ECE, she enjoyed reading a diverse range of story books to her students everyday. She strongly believes that “literature is a very important part of a child’s development”.

Throughout the years Julia learned that discussions with her students about her pets has always been a topic that sparked their curiosity. The children loved to see photos of her two dogs and her cat, share their stories about their own pets and they always asked an endless amount of questions. “The more my students could relate to our discussion of pets the more interested they became in dogs and cats.  This is how I became inspired to write fictional children’s books depicting the life of my beloved long haired, Chihuahuas named Chukums and Charlie and my American Bobtail Lynx cat named Cali.” With these adorable pieces of literature Julia feels students and readers around the world can truly relate to the moral of her stories and the love they share with their furry family members.

Meet Cali, our 7-year old American Bobtail Lynx, born in sunny California and brought home to Canada to join our family. With her exotic, wild appearance and unique polydactyl paws- meaning she has extra toes – Cali is truly one of a kind. Despite her wild looks, she has the sweetest personality, full of fun, playfulness, and warmth. Her soft, velvety coat and gentle nature instantly capture hearts. Cali adored her doggie sisters, Chukums and Charlie, looking up to them with admiration and love. Her bond with them was special, and together they shared countless happy moments. Cali’s playful spirit and loving heart bring warmth and joy in everything she does, making her an irreplaceable part of our family.

Meet Chukums and Charlie, two long-haired Champion Bred Chihuahuas born in Ontario, Canada.

Chukums, the elder of the duo, was a Deer-Headed Chihuahua who lived an incredible 17 years and was a regal soul with a playful streak. Charlie, the younger one, was an Apple-Head Chihuahua who lived to 12 years and brought endless energy and fun to every day. Born to be top-tier companions, these two were the perfect blend of grace and goofiness. It was their unconditional love and unwavering loyalty that made them truly special to us. They were gentle and sweet with everyone they met, always spreading happiness. Running and playing at the parkies was one of their favourite pastimes and their energy and joy were contagious. Chukums and Charlie were more than pets; they were family, and their love left an everlasting mark on our hearts.
